The advent of Bengal’s talkie era was in 1931 with the release of Jamai Sashthi. Dena Paona was the first feature-length Bengali talkie. Few of the films from the early talkie era have survived the test of time. Too few among them are available for viewing now. As a result, photographs are the only available resource for knowing about cinema from that period. BFA has compiled still photographs from some of the movies that released between 1931 and 1947 with the hope that whatever has survived will not fade into oblivion.
